Research projects that show how I work.

Research projects, public lectures, and the work I point people to first.

Dataset

SWAN-SF: analysis-ready solar flare data

A customisable dataset of over 1000 parameters derived from vector magnetic field data for active regions on the Sun. The goal is to make solar flare forecasting more reproducible and easier to use for downstream analysis.

Modeling

Large-scale solar flows from HMI/SDO

Work on differential rotation, torsional oscillation, and meridional flow that uses HMI data to extract large-scale dynamics from noisy observations.

Inference

Surface flux transport and data assimilation

I have worked on ensemble Kalman filter data assimilation inside a surface flux transport model to infer flows more cleanly from observations and simulations.

Physics

Polar Sun and high-latitude structure

Recent work on high-latitude inertial modes and polar magnetograms connects the geometry-limited polar Sun to the next generation of observations.

Research themes

Three themes that keep coming back.

Flow measurements, simulations, and data products.

Flow measurements

LCT, helioseismic rotation, and HMI-based flow inference all sit in the same family: extracting a weak signal from difficult observations.

Simulations

Surface flux transport and related modeling let me test ideas, compare regimes, and separate observation effects from physical effects.

Data analysis

Filament detection, flare datasets, and survey-style products have taught me how to build things that other people can actually reuse.
